Well, we got a phone call at 12:15 AM letting us know that L&D was full up. We called back at 4:30 to double-check our new 5 am time, and they still didn't have a room. We are headed in now to start the preliminary stuff, but it may be a while as we are waiting on a room to free up this morning from delivery or an observation going home.
I'm a little sad the birthdate and time with my doctor are looking less likely, but that's not what is really important at this point. After hardly sleeping the past couple nights, we're eager to get the show on the road! Will update when we can.
Updated 9:15 am -- Well so much for that idea. No 08.08.08 unless she comes the old-fashioned way and soon. As soon as we got to the hospital, they basically said they'd had a bunch more people come in whose waters had broken. We waited a couple hours and did some outpatient monitoring. Everything looked good - BP, heartrate. I am having contractions every 6-8 minutes, but they seem to be Braxton-Hicks still because they last too long and aren't "productive" according to the nurses.
They didn't have a room still though, said they were somewhat short on staff, and said it was really late in the day to start an induction. My doctor was headed out within a few hours and probably wouldn't have been around, although she did say that they could double up on the meds to make it go faster. Ouch! Given all that and the fact that I already hadn't eaten in over 12 hours and slept about 10 hours out of the past two days, we decided it'd be better to reschedule.
So we are back to hoping she makes an appearance on her own for a while. Maybe that's what nature intended. If I'm going without my usual doctor, then I might get to go on my own and use the original birth plan. We're set to see the other doctor in the practice Tuesday. If nothing else happens before then, we have an appointment to induce at a week past my due date on August 18th/19th. I guess this just demonstrates my point about not being able to control everything!
